to help you and your children thrive!

NOTE: For those registering who are Charter School participants: After the Purchase Order is approved via the charter, please ensure your registration is confirmed by visiting any of our YMCA locations IN PERSON ONLY. Kindly note, a Purchase Order alone does not guarantee your registration. Once you have received confirmation from your school, your next steps are to complete the registration process at the YMCA to secure your spot. Homeschool Study Hall is a structured and supportive learning environment designed to provide homeschooled students with a dedicated space and time for focused studying, completing assignments, and receiving academic assistance when needed. This course aims to create a conducive atmosphere that promotes productivity, time management, and collaboration among students pursuing homeschool education.

In the event of fewer than three children being enrolled, there is a possibility of class cancellation.

Course Objectives:

  1. Study and Assignment Completion: The primary objective of the Homeschool Study Hall is to provide a quiet and organized space where students can focus on their studies, complete assignments, and engage in self-directed learning under the guidance of a facilitator.
  2. Time Management and Productivity: Students will learn essential time management skills to effectively plan and allocate their study time. They will develop techniques to stay focused, avoid distractions, and maintain a consistent study routine.
  3. Academic Assistance: The study hall will offer academic support to students who need clarification on concepts or assistance in specific subjects. A facilitator will be available to answer questions and provide guidance when required.
  4. Peer Collaboration: The study hall will foster an environment where students can collaborate with their peers, engage in discussions, and work together on projects. This collaborative approach encourages learning through interaction and knowledge-sharing.
  5. Study Skills and Note-taking: Students will be taught effective study skills, note-taking techniques, and organizational strategies to enhance their learning experience and retention of information.
  6. Test Preparation: The study hall will assist students in preparing for assessments, tests, and exams. Students will receive guidance on exam strategies and practice opportunities to build confidence in their academic performance.
  7. Personal Development: Apart from academic growth, the study hall will focus on promoting personal development by fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  8. Stress Management: The study hall will emphasize the importance of mental well-being and stress management. Students will learn techniques to manage academic pressures and maintain a healthy balance between their studies and personal life.
  9. Parental Involvement: Parents or guardians will be encouraged to actively participate in the study hall’s activities, enabling them to stay informed about their child’s progress and provide additional support at home.

Course Requirements: Students attending the Homeschool Study Hall should come prepared with their study materials, textbooks, and assignments. They are expected to demonstrate respect for others’ learning by maintaining a quiet and focused environment during study hours. Regular attendance and active engagement in the study hall activities are essential for maximizing the benefits of this supportive learning environment.

Note: The course will provide an excellent opportunity for homeschooled students to supplement their primary education by offering a structured study space, academic support, and opportunities for social interaction with peers pursuing homeschooling. The focus will be on creating a positive and nurturing environment that enhances students’ academic performance and fosters a love for learning.

The course structure allows for 60 minutes of independent or group work. Option for targeted instruction to develop key academic competencies can be facilitated.

Welcome to our vibrant and engaging “Around the World Elective” program! This unique elective is designed to create an enriching environment that fosters safety, support, care, and most importantly, fun! Our primary goals revolve around nurturing the holistic development of young individuals, focusing on inner strength, character building, and heightened awareness.

  Program Objectives: 

–   Cultivating Inner Strength:   Through interactive activities and discussions, we aim to empower young participants, nurturing their inner resilience and fortitude in a supportive environment.

  1. Introduce the fundamentals of art: The course will cover essential concepts such as line, shape, form, color, value, texture, and composition. Understanding these foundational elements is crucial to creating visually appealing artwork.
  2. Explore different artistic mediums: Students will have the opportunity to experiment with various art materials, including pencils, charcoal, pastels, watercolors, acrylics, and more. This hands-on approach will help learners discover their preferred medium and style.
  3. Develop observational skills: Students will be guided through exercises that enhance their ability to observe the world around them. Learning to perceive shapes, light, shadow, and proportions will contribute to better representational art.
  4. Encourage creativity and self-expression: The course will provide a supportive environment for students to express their thoughts, emotions, and ideas through their artwork. Emphasis will be placed on finding one’s artistic voice and developing a unique artistic identity.

Course Requirements: No prior artistic experience is necessary. Students are expected to come to class with an open mind, a willingness to learn, and a passion for creativity. Supplies are included in the cost of this course and will be provided. 

By the end of the Art course, students will have gained confidence in their artistic abilities, acquired foundational skills, and developed a deeper appreciation for art as a form of expression and communication. They will be well-prepared to continue their artistic journey and may consider enrolling in more advanced art courses or pursuing personal artistic projects.

Creative Writing & Publishing: Crafting Short Stories, Comic Books, and Magazines

Do you possess a love for storytelling, whether through the written word or captivating visuals? Have you ever felt the thrill of an untold narrative waiting to be shared with the world? Stories have the remarkable power to evoke emotions, shape perceptions, and connect us in unique ways. This course invites aspiring storytellers to explore the art of crafting compelling narratives through various mediums.

Through a series of engaging sessions, participants will delve into the intricacies of storytelling, uncovering the fundamental elements that breathe life into tales. From the realms of short stories to the vivid panels of comic books and the dynamic layouts of magazines, this class serves as a creative playground where imagination meets structured expression.

Key Course Components:

1. Storytelling Foundations: Students will embark on a journey through the essential elements of storytelling, learning how to harness ideas and weave them into captivating narratives. From character development to plot structuring, they will master the art of creating immersive worlds and relatable protagonists.

2. Short Story Creation: Guided by expert instruction, participants will explore the process of planning, drafting, and refining their short stories. Through comprehensive outlines and step-by-step guidance, they will transform their ideas into polished, self-authored tales.

3. Comic Book Crafting: Delving into the realm of visual storytelling, students will learn the nuances of comic book creation. From storyboarding to character design and panel sequencing, they will discover how to bring stories to life through a combination of words and art.

4. Magazine Development: Understanding the intricacies of editorial layout and content curation, participants will explore the world of magazine creation. From article ideation to design elements, they will learn how to craft visually appealing and content-rich publications.

At the culmination of the course, participants have the opportunity to contribute to a collective publication showcasing their creative works.

Two months of registration is required, billed Monthly. By completing the full eight-week registration, students will become published authors in our collaborative short story collection. This anthology will be sent for publishing upon course completion, and participants will receive guidance on obtaining their copy of the published book.

Home Economics: Life Skills & Etiquette, a class dedicated to equipping children with essential life skills necessary for their everyday lives. Our program focuses on empowering young minds with practical knowledge in financial literacy, sewing, cooking, and home management. These skills form the foundation for self-sufficiency and responsible decision-making, fostering independence and confidence in various aspects of personal and domestic life.

Homeschool Socials and Field Trips

These events will vary each month and will provide fun and engaging activities that encourage participation. Our experienced staff build on social emotional skill and implement themed activities in  various areas such as, but not limited to: engineering, cooking, art and games!

Homeschool Socials at the YMCA provide opportunities for children to socialize with other children and make friends in a safe and supervised environment!  Homeschool Socials are a 2 hour drop off, one day event (parents do not attend). 

Meet ups are essential to family connections and relationships within the homeschool community. Some meet ups are free and others are events and trips that we can come together as a community to build bonds and strengthen our connections within our circles. Homeschool Meet Ups are a 2 hour event, where the whole family is invited! 

Parent Advisory Committee: PAC meets once a quarter! This platform is a great way to connect with other parents like you! Help guide the Homeschool Electives and Support Programs to fit the needs of the community, and share academic advice and support with each other. RSVP as lunch AND childcare is provided!

Park Days and Field Trips: Family outings! We are building a community! Group Rates and Socialization for children AND families!

Keeping Fit [PE]

The Keeping Fit PE class at the YMCA is designed to promote physical fitness, improve social/emotional awareness, and enhance self-esteem among students. Through a variety of warm-ups, activities, group games, and group sports, this elective aims to prepare students for a lifetime of staying physically active and adopting healthy habits.

Spring Break is March 5th- 14th- NO Tuesday/ Thursday Classes

April 2nd and 4th NO PE/ Lunch

Course Objectives:

  1. Physical Fitness: Students will engage in various exercises, sports, and activities to improve their overall physical fitness levels, including cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, and coordination.
  2. Social and Emotional Awareness: Through group activities and team sports, students will develop social skills such as communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution, as well as emotional awareness and empathy towards their peers.
  3. Self-Esteem: The class will focus on promoting self-confidence and a positive body image in students by celebrating their achievements and encouraging them to embrace a healthy lifestyle.
  4. Adaptability: Activities and sports will be tailored to accommodate different age groups and skill levels, ensuring that all students can participate and challenge themselves appropriately.
  5. Lifelong Skills and Healthy Habits: The course will emphasize the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle beyond the classroom setting, encouraging students to adopt lifelong habits that contribute to their well-being.

Course Content:

  1. Warm-Ups: Each class will begin with dynamic warm-up exercises to prepare the students’ bodies for physical activity and prevent injuries.
  2. Activities: Students will participate in a variety of fun and engaging activities that promote cardiovascular fitness, strength, and coordination. These may include circuit training, obstacle courses, dance-based exercises, and more.
  3. Group Games: Group games will be incorporated to enhance teamwork, cooperation, and problem-solving skills in a fun and interactive setting.
  4. Group Sports: Students will have the opportunity to play team sports like soccer, basketball, volleyball, and others. These sports will not only improve physical fitness but also teach valuable lessons in teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship.
  5. Character Values: Throughout the course, students will learn and practice character values such as humility, perseverance, respect, and fair play, which are essential both on and off the field.

In conclusion, the Keeping Fit PE class at the YMCA aims to inspire and empower students to lead active and healthy lives while fostering important social and emotional skills. By encouraging teamwork, self-improvement, and positive character values, this course seeks to create a supportive and motivating environment for students to embrace fitness as an integral part of their lives.

  1. Develop Basic Culinary Skills: Children will be taught fundamental kitchen techniques such as chopping, peeling, measuring, mixing, and more. These skills will form the foundation for their culinary journey.
  2. Explore Global Cuisine: Young chefs will have the opportunity to explore cuisines from around the world. Through exciting recipes and ingredients, they will learn about the cultural significance of various dishes.
  3. Foster Healthy Eating Habits: We believe in the importance of nutritious and wholesome cooking. Children will learn how to prepare delicious and healthy meals using fresh, seasonal ingredients.
  4. Encourage Creativity: Kulinary Kids Cooking Class promotes creativity in the kitchen. Kids will be encouraged to experiment with flavors and presentation, fostering their confidence and imagination.
  5. Emphasize Safety: Safety is our top priority. Children will learn how to handle kitchen tools responsibly and practice safe cooking techniques.

Students are encouraged to bring their own packed lunch and participate in student-led sessions that cater to individual preferences, including art and expression, games, competitive play, and engineering and tinkering.

  1. Promote Social Interaction: The primary focus of this course is to encourage students to interact with their peers in a relaxed and supportive environment, promoting positive social relationships and friendships.

The Makerspace Engineering course is an exciting and hands-on program that introduces students to the fascinating world of engineering in a real-world context. Throughout the course, children will delve into the history of engineering, exploring iconic landmarks like the Sydney Opera House, the Coliseum, and the Empire State Building, and understanding the significance of engineering in shaping our world.

The course adopts a Makerspace Style approach to learning, encouraging students to be creative, innovative, and resourceful. Students will actively engage in various activities and projects, fostering a deep understanding of engineering principles and concepts.

In the event of fewer than three children being enrolled, there is a possibility of class cancellation.

Key Learning Objectives:

  1. Fundamental Concepts: Students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of engineering, such as tension, weight-bearing structures, and the principles of windmills and bridges. Through practical applications, they will gain a solid foundation in engineering principles.
  2. Real-world Problem Solving: The course will challenge students to think critically and creatively as they tackle real-world engineering problems. They will learn how to analyze and address challenges faced by engineers in their everyday work.

Welcome to an immersive journey into American Sign Language (ASL) and the vibrant tapestry of Deaf culture. This course is designed to equip students with an in-depth understanding of ASL as a visual-gestural language and to explore the rich heritage and diversity of the Deaf community.

  Course Overview: 

The primary focus of this course is to introduce students to American Sign Language, the primary language used by Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in the United States and parts of Canada. Alongside ASL, students will delve into the multifaceted aspects of Deaf culture, fostering a profound appreciation for its diversity, history, values, and contributions.

  Book Club: 

As part of the cultural exploration, this course uniquely features a dedicated book club focused on Deaf culture literature. Engage in discussions and reflections on prominent works written by Deaf or heard of hearing authors, offering deeper insights into the experiences and narratives within the Deaf community.

  Course Objectives: 

1. Develop Basic Sign Language Skills:   Learn fundamental ASL components—vocabulary, sentence structures, grammar, and fingerspelling—to facilitate basic conversations.

2.   Cultivate Cultural Competence:   Explore Deaf culture’s values, norms, and social etiquette, fostering sensitivity and respect for the experiences of Deaf individuals.

“Twisted Stitches” is a creative and engaging sewing, crocheting, knitting and embroidery course designed to student led and interest based. This exciting program aims to introduce young learners to the art of sewing and crocheting, fostering their imagination, creativity, and fine motor skills. Through a combination of technique-focused instruction and hands-on crafting, students will explore the world of fabric and yarn, learning how to create unique designs while developing patience and precision through gentle and precise hand movements.

Course Objectives:

  1. Improve Communication and Instruction Following: Children will learn the importance of clear communication and the ability to follow ordered instructions. As they progress in the course, they will understand the significance of effectively conveying ideas and adhering to step-by-step processes.
  2. Develop Technique and Fundamental Skills: Students will be introduced to essential sewing and crocheting techniques, including threading a needle, basic stitches, crochet hooks, and pattern reading. They will gradually build proficiency in these skills to lay a strong foundation for future projects.
  3. Cultivate Imagination and Creativity: As children become more confident in their technical abilities, they will be encouraged to let their creativity soar. They will be guided to explore various fabrics, yarns, and colors, empowering them to design and execute their innovative sewing and crocheting projects.

  1. Introduction to hand Sewing: Students will learn the basics of sewing, including threading needles, knotting threads, and executing essential hand stitches. They will start with simple sewing projects to build confidence before moving on to more complex creations.
  2. Introduction to Crocheting: The fundamentals of crocheting will be introduced, including different types of crochet hooks, basic stitches, and techniques for creating various patterns.
